GL Studio Delivers Advanced Instrumentation to Havok™

DiSTI’s New Runtime Engine for GL Studio Successfully Integrates with Havok Vision Engine

Nov. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- The DiSTI Corporation, a leading provider of interactive 3D software and customized training solutions, and Havok™, a leading provider of simulation and 3D visualization technologies announce the successful integration of GL Studio, powered by the new Lumen Engine, into Havok’s Vision Engine. The technology integration allows developers to use GL Studio powered by Lumen in conjunction with Vision Engine to enhance realism of cockpit and instrumentation content for simulation and training applications.

The Lumen runtime engine for GL Studio is DiSTI’s newest advancement in human machine interface development technology allowing GL Studio users to expand their platform reach to include DirectX. In doing so, instrumentation integration with Havok and other DirectX-based rendering technologies are possible. In addition to DirectX, the new Lumen runtime delivers the features required to meet the needs of today’s interface developers, including: multi-touch, animations, advanced text capabilities, support for new graphics card features, and the foundation to build once deploy anywhere.

“The development of the new Lumen runtime for GL Studio represents a multimillion dollar development effort by DiSTI to ensure that our technology continues to meet the demands of our users well into the next decade, and our collaboration with Havok is a great example. Not only will the integration with Havok’s Vision Engine technology enable a more efficient workflow for developers, it will also help simplify the development process. For the past twelve years, GL Studio has been the no nonsense way for developers to build and integrate their instrumentation content into OpenGL-based scene graphs. Today they can count on the same access to the DirectX community,” said Darren Humphrey, CTO of DiSTI.

Havok Vision Engine is a complete simulation development framework for creating compelling, high-quality visuals and realistic simulations, with recent capabilities that include vehicle and character simulation, ocean rendering and building and object destruction. The development framework ships with several out-of-box plugins for numerous third-party technologies such as DiSTI’s GL Studio powered by Lumen, and also includes sample projects and content libraries to help accelerate application development. With advanced capabilities and a highly efficient workflow, Havok’s Vision Engine technology has helped leading integrators such as Lockheed Martin, KMW, Cassidian, Thales, and Rheinmetall to not only meet, but exceed training requirements both in terms of delivery time and program budgets.

“It’s great to be working with a global leader like DISTI for HMI (Human Machine Interface) development,” said Cory Kumm, Director of Military and Simulation at Havok. “GL Studio powered by Lumen is a great fit for our customers and ecosystem filling a need for HMI development requirements within our 3D visualization and development framework. We look forward to seeing how customers make use of our combined capabilities.”

DiSTI’s Lumen Engine will be officially introduced at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) 2012 on Dec. 3 – 6 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Havok will showcase the joint integration at I/ITSEC booth 1821.
