Nov. 28, 2012 - PRLog -- Upward Transitions Therapeutic Horsemanship (UTTH) was able to host Mariah Kilbourne, Ms. Wheelchair America 2013 at an event held especially in her honor. Executive Director, Ms. Amber Higgs said, "most of the Board of Directors, friends and family, and our own staff Program Director, and volunteers were present for the event.

Ms. Kilbourne was crowned Ms. Wheelchair America 2013 on August 11, 2012 in New Jersey as part of a national competition. She was chosen among 27 participants, and she won over the judges with her communication skills, especially laughter. Ms. Wheelchair America 2013 is the spokesperson for the Ms. Wheelchair America Foundation, and spent the day learning about horsemanship and riding in the arena with Upward Transitions Therapeutic Horsemanship staff and volunteers.

Ms. Kilbourne had some ridership experience as young lady, and she decided she wanted to ride again with UTTH at the Happy Heart Ranch, located in Pipe Creek, Texas with the idea that she would conquer horseback riding in an effort to raise awareness for wheelchair bound children and adults across America.

From a donation to help challenged kids and adults at Upward Transitions Therapeutic Horsemanship, the Cyr Family Charitable Fund was able to connect two non profits for a wonderful day of horsemanship.

The riding event was managed by the UTTH Program Manager, Barbara Taylor, who is a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH) certified instructor. Ms. Taylor is responsible at UTTH to design riding programs for people with disabilities or is challenged to ride horses. Her experience with horses, and designing individual or group riding programs is instrumental in UTTH carrying out its mission to help those who may be challenged to gain confidence and achieve success through horsemanship.

If you'd like more information or wish to donate to UTTH please call the Executive Director, Amber Higgs at 210-885-3464. If you'd like more information about volunteering or donating to the Cyr Family Charitable Fund please contact the Executive Director, Dave Howell at 210-618-6566.
