Do You Have Different Swim Paces?

Many beginner swimmers, both young and old, find that they have one swim speed. Learn how slowing down can actually help you speed up.
 
Nov. 28, 2012 - PRLog -- As I continue to swim more and more I’ve come to the great realization that I am beginning to understand swim paces.  Not only am I beginning to understand them but I am starting to be able to swim at different paces consistently.

When I first started swimming earlier this summer this wasn’t the case.  Everything I did in the pool was at the exact same speed.  The first two months of my swim career were at the exact same pace whether I was trying to do a warm up, cool down, 100 repeats, pulls, kicks, or long distance sessions.  I was giving everything I had and the swims were stuck in one slow going gear.

As I’ve focused more on technique and drills I’ve become much more efficient in the water.  I love watching swim techniques on YouTube or on the blogs I come across and I’ve come to really love the drills in swimming.  My favorite swim drills include:

•Fingertip drill
•Fist drill
•Head out of water drill (this one is still a killer for me)
•One arm drills
•Pulling (technically not a drill I guess but really helps me feel body rotation)
