Nov. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- Just in time for the gift-giving season, Turkey Shore Distilleries is serving up a truly unique New England offering – the opportunity to support local craft business and get your own 5-gallon barrel of Reserve Old Ipswich Rum. Starting this week, the award-winning Ipswich microdistillery is accepting applications in its Lab & Cask Club, which also gives members the opportunity to purchase a barrel of Old Ipswich. This rum, which has been aging since the summer of 2011, will not be available in stores or anywhere else.

“Just like Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), this model helps us grow and provides a lucky few Lab & Cask members with the highest quality artisanal rum. We currently have 17 barrels available for purchase as part of this inaugural program,” said Mat Perry, President and Founder of Turkey Shore Distilleries. “We will let buyers sample and select the barrel that they like most, then we will bottle the contents of that barrel. The buyer not only gets 30 bottles of Old Ipswich Rum with a personalized label, but also the oak barrel as well.”

Membership in the Lab & Cask Club costs $250 annually and includes such perks as the chance to buy a barrel of Reserve Rum, a free Lab & Cask T-shirt and Sweatshirt/Fleece, first access to all seasonal and special releases from Turkey Shore Distilleries before the public, tickets to a private Annual Party, special deals and discounts, an annual newsletter, and the first right to renew your membership for 2014. There are 50 Lab & Cask memberships available.

It costs $1,250 to join the Barrel Buying Program and includes 30 bottles of the first premium offering of this Old Ipswich Rum with a special Lab & Cask label and signature black wax closure, the 5-gallon barrel that was used to age your rum, and special stickers on the bottles personalized with your name or your company’s name. Turkey Shore Distilleries will waive the $250 Lab & Cask Membership fee those who purchase a barrel.

Membership in the Lab & Cask Club and the Barrel Buying Program are perfect for corporate gift-giving, or an unforgettable gift for yourself or that discerning spirits lover on your list. To sign up, call 978-356-0048 or email info@turkeyshoredistilleries.com (please write "Lab & Cask" in the subject line).

Perry and Head Distiller Evan Parker have a personal connection to the history of rum in Ipswich. They grew up on Turkey Shore Road, where a distillery operated from 1770-1836. Barrels of molasses that originated in the West Indies were unloaded at an old wharf located in Mat’s back yard along the Ipswich River. The barrels were then rolled back and forth across the street from Hunt’s Wharf to the distillery. Now, more than 175 years later, Turkey Shore Distilleries once again sits along the banks of the Ipswich River, ready to revive the ancient tradition of producing New England rum.

Started in 2010, Turkey Shore Distilleries has been gaining accolades and attention from industry experts. Old Ipswich Rum was recently awarded two medals at the Ministry of Rum, and Old Ipswich Tavern Style Rum also was named Best of Class Rum at the 2012 American Distilling Institute annual conference earlier this year.

About Turkey Shore Distilleries

Turkey Shore Distilleries LLC is the maker of Old Ipswich Rum, a line of award-winning, artisanal spirits. Old Ipswich Tavern-Style Rum won Gold Medals for Amber Rum and Best of Class Rum, and the Old Ipswich White Cap Rum won a Bronze Medal in the Clear Rum category at the 2012 American Distilling Institute’s Craft Distilling Conference. Formed in 2010 by Mat Perry and Evan Parker in the historic coastal town of Ipswich, MA, Turkey Shore Distilleries aims to reconnect New Englanders to a significant part of their past. They use table-grade sweet molasses from the sugarcane fields of Louisiana and a 250-gallon copper pot still built in Kentucky to create a true American product to awaken the New England spirit in all of us. Old Ipswich Rum is available at bars, restaurants and liquor stores. In addition, Turkey Shore Distilleries is open from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. for tours and tastings at 23 Hayward St. in Ipswich.
