Peter M. Perez Joins the Legacy Trust Board of Directors
Grand Rapids, Michigan, November 26, 2012 – West Michigan business leader Peter M. Perez has joined the board of directors for Legacy Trust and the Legacy Trust Holding Company.
Perez brings more than 45 years of leadership expertise to his new role with Legacy Trust, an independent, locally owned trust bank focused on wealth management. His appointment to Legacy’s 10-member board has been approved by Michigan’s Office of Financial and Insurance Services.
Perez recently served two years as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Manufacturing in the International Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. That appointment grew from an impressive resume of leadership roles at diverse companies focused on manufacturing, medical products and construction.

Perez and his wife, Carroll, own Grand Rapids-based Carter Products Co., a leading producer of accessory equipment for industrial woodworking machinery. Under his direction, Carter Products has added new product lines aimed at wind energy, stone, solid surface and the home hobbyist woodworking markets.
Prior to his move to Grand Rapids, Perez served as president of two leading musical instrument manufacturers, C.G. Conn, makers of brass and woodwind instruments, pianos and electronic organs and also Steinway & Sons, the world-famous builder of concert pianos where he was responsible for world-wide operations.
Perez also served as the president of Eagle Vision, a company that produces innovative new products for the ophthalmic market, while simultaneously serving as vice president of Flautt Properties, a hotel construction and management company. In this latter role, he managed the design, construction, marketing and management of an award-winning multi-million dollar life care retirement facility in Augusta, Ga.
Committed to the principles and discipline of manufacturing, Perez has served in numerous leadership roles, including past chair of the Manufacturers Council of The Right Place, Inc, president of the Wood Machinery Manufacturers Association of America, or WMMA, and the board of the National Association of Manufacturers. Perez has received numerous awards for his leadership and advocacy efforts, including WMMA’s highest honor, the Ralph B. Baldwin Award of Excellence, and a Special Achievement Award from the Michigan Manufacturers Association.
Active in the arts and civic life, Perez is the chair-elect of the Grand Rapids Symphony, a director of The Employer’s Association, on the Grand Valley State University Foundation board and a past member of the board of trustees of the Michigan Colleges Foundation. Formerly he served as a director of The Right Place and The Economic Club of Grand Rapids.
Perez holds a bachelor of arts in English literature from Yale University and an MBA from Indiana University. He served three years as an officer in the U.S. Navy.
A native of Elkhart, Ind., Perez and his wife now reside in Ada. They have two sons and four grandchildren.
