Vegetation studies are performed for larger lakes and ponds to identify the species and distribution of aquatic vegetation, to determine if the vegetation is spreading at a detrimental rate for the health of the water body, and to provide baseline data for assessment of the effectiveness of vegetation management programs.
Herbivorous fish such as triploid grass carp can help maintain balanced plant communities and ideal water quality in a lake or pond by consuming nuisance vegetation and naturally controlling certain aquatic weeds without the use of herbicides. A grass carp management plan provides recommendations for fish stocking rates and monitoring programs to help achieve a healthy and balanced aquatic habitat.
