-- Wesley Ellis has been through a tumultuous yet quite an adventurous young life. It starts back in Florida where he was born in a trailer park. His adventure began when he and a friend trekked up the east coast looking for something better, something different, something inspiring. From the constant break downs of his ’87 Buick to his life in Charlottesville, Virginia where he had written and recorded his first CD “Broke is the new Black?”, Wesley knew that each adventure in his life was a lesson to be learned. Four particular songs “OK, Sarah”, “Hold Me Down”, “Destiny is Make Believe” and “Where Will” were all written at a time when Wesley was broke and having no clear direction to where his life would lead.
His decision to move forward and develop a full length album was a no-brainer. His goal to be a performer that stood out, to bring true-life drama and adventure that he personally experienced – and what a story he began to tell. The result is the birth of “Groundwork”
which signifies his new starting point in life.
was released in June 2012 to great reviews. His lead single “Walk with You” is about two kids trying to forget their abusive families as they walked home from school by talking about great things. This song has such an authentic, rustic energy to it. Its simplicity is complex and thought provoking. This mid-tempo song has unique vocals that capture the attention of listeners everywhere. You cannot help but feel the emotion and how easily audiences are drawn into his story. Wesley’
s style is reminiscent of Dave Mathews and rightfully demands the same attention.
