32 children from Year 2 visited the latest development from the award-winning housebuilder, which is situated on Seagrave Road.
Kitted out in hard hats and high visibility jackets, the six and seven-year-olds took part in an action packed day of activities. These included a site walk to point out the dangers of playing on a building site and the chance to view a special health and safety video. The youngsters also worked in groups to create posters showing the activities that take place on site.
Commenting on the event, Malcolm Ceney, production director for Miller Homes East Midlands, said:
“The pupils loved the chance to be mini builders for the day and get to wear all of the kit.
“Of course, there was a serious message behind it all. We have a 35-acre site in Sileby and 180 new homes to build. It is therefore very important that the children understand that it will be a very busy building site and not a place to play.
“Talking to the children, it seems that that message got across and that they got first hand experience of the building process and the work, quality and care that goes in to building each new home.”
Teacher Elizabeth Turner added:
“The Children had an enjoyable visit, especially climbing on the new fork lift truck.
“They learned a lot about how the building site works and the dangers that they could face if they tried to play there.”
Miller Homes has been working closely with Redlands Community School since announcing plans for its latest development. Earlier this year, the Miller Homes team visited the school with an archaeologist, to show the children some of the Iron Age and Roman bones and pottery pieces that had been discovered at the site.
The Miller Homes development on Seagrave Road is due to launch in spring 2013 and will offer a range of quality two, three and four–bedroom homes. With developments across the East Midlands, Miller Homes has developed a reputation for offering value for money and flexible purchase incentives to make the moving process even easier.
