Nov. 24, 2012 - London, England - Legendary British rock icon Sir Cliff Richard has honored
Earl Reginald Stevenson with a nomination for The Order of the British Empire to be bestowed by Her Majesty, The Queen. Stevenson a former U.S. Marine, a commissioned Colonel, and life member of Mensa. Stevenson is also a direct descendant of
John Stevenson, one of the first settlers at Jamestown, Virginia. On May 14, 1607, the Jamestown Settlement Colony was established on the mainland of North America. A group of 104 English men and boys began the settlement on the banks of Virginia's James River. They were sponsored by the Virginia Company of London, whose stockholders hoped to make a profit from the resources of the New World. The community suffered terrible hardships in its early years, but managed to endure, earning the distinction of being America's first permanent English colony. They arrived on three ships, the Susan Constant, Discovery, and Godspeed. John Stevenson was a Gentleman who accompanied Captain John Smith to Jamestown. Ironically, Stevenson is also a direct descendant of
Andries Pretorius, the South African Boer leader.
