A commerce student of Gujarat University, Dinesh Parmar, is now working with HDFC Bank. He has also been working for orphan welfare. He has long been engaged in teaching poor children voluntarily. Dinesh’s new fiction, Let Me Fly, is based on some of his first-hand experiences dealing with the poor children.
The protagonist of his tale is Gala. She is born with one hand and a promise of lifelong suffering. From her birth she is supposed to be an ominous entity to her father, her relatives and the great society! Her father is utterly disturbed with his handicapped girl child and keeps on cursing the little child now and then. Gala gets habituated with her uncompassionate family and relatives around her disturbed with her uncouth presence. She is unwanted everywhere.
Her only shelter is her mother. She looked after the poor girl with lots of compassion, though in vain. She cannot even save her fond child from being beaten by her ruthless husband, who curses Gala and her mother for the unholy birth of the former. Even Gala is abused and beaten up actually for no reason. Bearing all sorts of insufferable mental, as well as physical pain, Gala enjoys the very thing of living. The essential joy of life helps her to enjoy every moment of life. When she is at the heart of nature, the feeling of being a part of the world seems overwhelming to her.
This little girl full of life and devoid of love is admitted to a local school. There she sees a bunch of little children just like her. The only difference between them is of one hand and a lot of love. They play in the tiffin time, but avoid Gala. In some eyes she notices clear hatred and fear. Gala is marginalized gain. She is hardly welcome in any group. Nobody talk to her. A teacher lends her money, but that is stolen also. Finally she is driven out of the school with abuse. At last she becomes a child laborer. There she finds another child’s attention and care, totally unknown to her. Is it love? Does Gala find a human hand for her? Can she survive her life and love in the midst of penury?
