If you are not familiar with Reiki it is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki treatments are done while you lay on a massage table, fully dressed. Reiki can be done by the laying on of hands directly onto the body, or it can be done above the body without touching. I have found that in our busy world people don't often allow themselves the opportunity to receive healing touch, so I highly recommend giving the hands on version a try. Remember back to when you got a bump or bruise when you were little and your Mom would rub it or hold it to make you feel better, that's the healing touch I'm talking about. Most practitioners will move through a series of hand positions over your head, shoulders, arms, hands, abdomen, back, legs, knees, and feet. Clients report feeling a warm, soothing feeling during their treatment.
Reiki is extremely helpful in allowing clients to completely let go and relax during their sessions. According to Fisher, many all of her clients actually fall asleep during their treatments, and report improved sleep for many nights following a session. The benefits of receiving Reiki don’t stop there, since it is working on an energetic level it helps re-balance the body and its energy systems and often times when we are rebalanced many symptoms we are experiencing will fall away or be resolved. From my clients I have seen frozen shoulders regain movement, staff infections reversed, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia improved a general overall improvement in their outlook on life, increased happiness, and a significant decrease in stress and anxiety leading to happier and more fulfilled relationships with others and themselves.
Fisher advises it is always important to do your homework when choosing a Reiki practitioner. Make sure you ask the practitioner about their training and even what level of Reiki training they have completed. Reiki like anything else has been modified, changed, and diluted since it was originally introduced to the western world. You can find many varieties of Reiki, some more pure and effective than others. I have studied with teachers from the William Rand International Center for Reiki Studies, which is the industry standard in the Western World. I teach students to the standards that have been set forth from the school to keep the teachings as clean and pure as I can. The system for Reiki that I learned works and I want to pass it along to my students, so that they can see the same amazing results that I have witnessed with my clients during their treatments.
