By: Sylviaette Hill, coach, matchmaker, consultant. Located at the SGI-USA Florida Nature and Culture Center near Ft. Lauderdale, FL the conference, Changing Karma Into Mission, held November 30 – December 3 delves into the words, ideas and intentions of Nichiren Daishonin expressed in his writings. This is a sold out conference with 200 participants. Hill, a practicing Nichiren Buddhist for 28 years and lay leader in the SGI-USA organization in Oakland, CA, will share her process of creating a loving family relationship after many years of deep sadness and estrangement. Applying the practice of chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo and studying the writings of Nichiren Daishonin gave Hill the insight, wisdom, confidence and courage to bring loving relationships into her life. The SGI-USA Florida Nature and Culture Center (FNCC), located in the peaceful Everglades, opened in 1996 as a facility for SGI-USA members to refresh their spirit and determination to practice Nichiren Buddhism. As SGI President Daisaku Ikeda commented: …“People should leave energized and filled with hope.” The FNCC is located on 125 acres of restored wetlands surrounding Toda Lake. Here amid the Live Oak trees and Sabal Palms native to the Florida landscape, discussions on Buddhism, philosophy and everyday life take place in a relaxing atmosphere. End
