Dr Les Bailey began his career in physical therapies in 1981,qualifying in remedial massage,and later going on to qualify as an osteopath.
He gained his phd from OIUCM for a thesis on the treatment of plantar fasciitis.
He was awarded a teaching/lecturing diploma from the northern school of osteopaths in 1993.
He also holds a diploma in foot biomechanics .

Lets start by looking at what the feet do to keep exquilibrium in the body throughout everyday activity like walking / running and even standing still.
The feet are at the very foundations of your structure and provide a very cleverly balanced platform that governs the biomechanical evenness needed for your musculoskeletal system to work in a harmonious nature, free from strains and counter strains caused by its foundations being collapsed.
Think of a building and what happens when there is a problem in the foundations.
Cracks appear throughout the structure, not because of faulty brickwork or building, but because the foundations have collapsed, causing unnatural and unbearable strain throughout the buildings structure.
I have news for you ..... The body and its relation to the feet are the same as that cracking building !!
If we have over pronated feet, apart from the usual foot and lower back problems, such as plantar fasciitis, metatarsal pain, shin pain  ankle symptoms and sacro iliac pain , there is the fact that the already overworked muscles of the legs have to work over 33% HARDER to compensate for the imbalance.
This makes perfect sense, as the legs are working out of kilter due to their foundations being unbalanced and being forced to compensate for this by using their own motor power in the wrong way.
Your body is a powerhouse of strain and counter strains, all working together to produce a machine that can propel itself along, either fast or slow, and can stand up as a biped, on two relatively short feet, without toppling over !!!
Is it any wonder that if the feet are not biomechanically correct that all of the above go to pot?
So, when feet are badly balanced, not only do the legs have to compensate for the shortcomings of the feet, they also have to use muscle energy to balance the resulting faulty balance of the upper body !!!!
The same can be attributed to supinated feet.
Prescription orthotics are the perfect way to combat this problem by correcting the feet and regaining perfect foot posture.
This then allows the feet to do their job of foundations in the correct manner, thus enabling the legs and upper body to enjoy perfect equilibrium thanks to their smart new foundations.
We must however use prescription orthotics, as prefabricated orthotics ( the ones you buy off the shelf in chemists or from adverts in the paper ) can create more problems than they could ever solve due to their inaccuracy.
Choose a practitioner that works with semi flexible orthotics that allow natural motion of the feet, and, unless there is a very good biomechanical reason, avoid rigid orthotics.
