Improving, Prolonging and Saving Children’ The Saving tiny Hearts Society (StHS) applauds the recent announcement by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on their collaboration on the development of a surveillance system and registry for sudden death in children and young adults. StHS is a 501c3 (not-for-profit) StHS has supported research that seeks to determine the causes of sudden death in children and young adults and its relationship to CHD. More recently, StHS has received grant proposals specifically targeting these critical issues. The Medical Advisory Board (MAB) with Dr. Loren Wold (Chair, Principal Investigator, The Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital, Columbus, OH) will be evaluating grants at the end of this month to determine the ones most worthy of funding for the upcoming year. The development of a comprehensive surveillance and registry for sudden death by the CDC and NIH is a great step forward in helping to evaluate and determine the causes of these events and how they may be eliminated. Their collaboration and support will help to heighten the awareness and will prove to be of great value. We look forward to hearing of the progress and how our group can be of assistance.
