Telemedicine may save Denmark DKK 8 billion per year.

Nov. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- According to a report by Boston Consulting commissioned by Telenor Denmark, the country of Denmark could save DKK 8 billion (USD $1.37 billion) per year by implementing telemedicine solutions in the care of the elderly.

In the coming years, the Danish healthcare sector will face significant pressure, as a projected 15 percent of people in Denmark will be over 70 years of age by the year 2025. This will cause an increase in Denmark's health spending of 30 to 55 percent, between 2012 and 2025, with fewer economically active people to fund these expenses.

To address this situation, Denmark has been actively seeking ways to improve its health care sector. The country is turning to health information technologies to provide better services and solutions that will improve health care for their elderly population in the coming years.

Telemedicine could be used to monitor the health of elderly people with chronic illnesses and specific diseases such as lung disease, heart disease and diabetes, all from the comfort of the patients' homes.
