BioFach India 2012 – South Asia’s biggest International Organic Trade Fair

BioFach India, takes place together with Indiaorganic in the city of Bangalore from November 29 to December 1, in Palace Grounds. It is the 4th edition of BioFach India which will have Consumer Connect Corner for the 1st time.

Nov. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- Bangalore, November 20, 2012: BioFach India, an offshoot of World Organic Trade Fair BioFach in Nürnberg, takes place together with Indiaorganic in the city of Bangalore from November 29 to December 1, in Palace Grounds.   The fourth edition of BioFach India 2012 by Nuremberg Messe, The Department of Agriculture, Government of Karnataka, and the International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA) attracts interested visitors from production, manufacturing, trade and services and it is the single largest platform where various stake-holders in the organic value chain congregate to network.  For the first time, BioFach India together with India Organic will have a dedicated “Consumer Connect corner within the fair” and is organized in collaboration with The Alternative, an online media platform focused on Sustainable living. The Consumer Connect Corner will engage panellists comprising eminent doctors, nutritionists and food experts on the benefits of organic food. Simultaneously, the fair is an opportunity for the farmers/growers as the event provides a good platform of buyer-seller meets for them to access National and International markets largely due to the presence of international as well domestic buyers. The eminent scientist and experts from Agriculture University will conduct workshops for farmers interested in transitioning and who are already into organic farming to upgrade and gain practical knowledge and advice.  Further, school children will be exposed to the goodness of organic food” through a series of programs.   “A cooking demonstration”and Food Festival will also be held during the fair. It provides an excellent opportunity for the general community to know about organic food, its benefits and how they could make it a part of their everyday lives.

The main attraction of this year’s fair including an official Country Pavilion from Germany, many National & international exhibitors, State Govt pavilions and a large number of exhibitors across the globe have confirmed their participation in the event. The main components of the fair are exhibitions, an International Seminar consisting of various eminent speakers, addressing on various Organic & agricultural aspects such as Organic movement – Vision 20-20, Technologies for increasing productivity / income in organic farming. This event is supported by Ministry of Agriculture; APEDA; and Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Govt. of India. The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM, Germany) is the patron of the fair. With the confirmed participation of National and International exhibitors, State pavilions, Certification bodies and Producer groups the organic fair is touted to be the most significant event in the organic sector in India.

Last year “BioFach India together with India Organic” 2011, took place from 10–12 November 2011, in Bangalore.  The Trade fair was graced by 171 satisfied exhibitors and 7,529 highly interested visitors including trade buyers from Germany and France. The whole diversity of the international organic community was shown in at Bangalore on the three days of the exhibition, which was characterized by business talks and professional and intercultural exchange. Biofach is held in Japan, the United States, South America and China apart from India.

About ICCOA: ICCOA (International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture) is a Knowledge and Learning Centre for all facets of organic agriculture. An excellent provider of information services, advice and market linkages to everyone involved in organic agriculture. In 2003, a number of NGOs, farmer organizations, companies, research institutions and government agencies took the initiative of forming an organization to provide services to the organic farming and organic stakeholders in India. In a planning workshop at National Academy for Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), Delhi, the stakeholders agreed on a joint vision and road map for building up the Competence Centre. The first Board of Directors was elected from the initial members. Subsequently the centre was registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act 1960
