Oral Surgeon in Dallas Helps Those In Need of Facial Cleft Surgery in Bangladesh

Nov. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas – John Wallace, D.D.S., M.D., a DFW oral surgeon and co-owner of the practice Dallas Oral Surgery Associates, is pleased to announce that he will be leaving on a mission trip to Bangladesh from November 26 – December 7, 2012 to help children in need as part of a medical and dental team organized by the non-profit organization Smile Bangladesh.

There are approximately 300,000 children and adults in Bangladesh living with cleft lips and cleft palates, and the vast majority of the country’s affected families lack the resources to have the deformity repaired. There are less than thirty surgeons trained to perform cleft surgery in the country, and many of the people that are most in need of surgery are from rural areas and cannot access or afford the medical care required.

It is amazing how a one hour surgery can change the lives of these individuals, allowing them to smile and lead more normal lives. The Smile Bangladesh organization is dedicated to supporting volunteer surgeons and medical teams that provide free facial cleft surgery for Bengalis with cleft lips and cleft palates.
