Follow on Google News | SR Sandy Spike: Wearable Art For A Charitable CauseSR, the atelier known for luxury, solid wood collectibles, announces the Sandy Spike Series, a limited edition set of pendants which will raise money to support those effected by Hurricane Sandy.
SR will craft a limited edition set of solid wood Spike pendant necklaces numbered from 1 to 29, a number selected to honor October 29, 2012, the date the historical storm devastated New York City and surrounding boroughs. These made-to-order necklaces, handcrafted by Stefan Rurak himself, will be designed personally for each client keeping with the tradition of SR. The Spikes will be available in multiple sizes, styles, and designs. When asked about the project, Rurak explained “by creating a piece that can be worn, and is less time consuming to produce than a piece of furniture, we are able to begin the effort to support the victims of the storm immediately. Also, it is a wearable piece therefore creating awareness.” Rurak and Liz Ash, the Creative Director of SR, came up with the concept behind the SR Spike during a late night phone call soon after the storm. Ash comments “the spike represents a stake, a symbol for both the severe impact the storm had on the city, and the inevitable mark it will leave in the memories of many.” Founded by the artist Stefan Rurak, SR is a Brooklyn-based atelier that merges modern conceptual design with time-honored craftsmanship. The results are evocative, one-of-a-kind, solid wood furniture and accessories with distinctive physical presence and narrative depth. SR specializes in bespoke services for private clients and releases seasonal collections in boutique limited editions. By collaborating with the distinctive and profound properties of wood, SR is able to craft furniture and accessories that transcend the utilitarian and become collectible art.
