Nov. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- Today marks the beginning of Globe University-Appleton's campaign and partnership to help those in need by collecting donations for United Way Fox Cities and the 39 different programs that they support throughout the Fox Valley.

United Way Fox Cities improves lives by bringing diverse people together to build a stronger, more caring community for everyone. Through their Impact Areas, they provide for people's basic needs, strengthen families, develop children and youth and promote health and healing. They identify issues, develop partnerships, implement solutions and measure results. United Way representative Renee Waterman spoke to staff at Globe University during the campaign kick-off about how we can partner together to support those in need. One major initiative that is supported by United Way Fox Cities is 2-1-1. "There is 9-1-1 for medical emergencies, 2-1-1 is everything else," Waterman said. "We receive almost 2,000 calls a month--they might need some financial assistance, transportation or daycare assistance. The point is, when you're in the middle of a crisis, you may not know where to go."

Globe University will spend two weeks raising funds that will go directly towards programs that United Way Fox Cities helps fund throughout the year. The community-wide campaign is a 'needs based' campaign goal because it is driven by the dollar amount needed to fund partner agencies' programs.

Globe University is proud to contribute to the campaign for United Way, as our staff and students have partnered with many of the organizations that house the programs that receive help from the United Way. Some of these organizations include The ARC Fox Cities, Inc., Boys' & Girls' Brigade Association, Fox Valley Literacy Council, Inc., Sexual Assault Crisis Center - Fox Cities Inc., and more. Types of involvement include volunteerism, service learning projects and sponsorships of special events.

United Way Fox Cities also holds initiatives that help our local citizens each day. Some of these include the Fox Cities Diaper Bank, The Connector, 2-1-1 and United Way's PATH (Providing Access to Healing) for students. Waterman stated that the Diaper Bank is a detrimental need for families that struggle to buy diapers for their children. After it was implemented, families started to receive much-needed help in that area. "Over 600 families per month are getting donated diapers here in the Fox Cities," Waterman said. She also noted that The Connector program has been extremely helpful in the area. "Over 60,000 rides have been given in the last four years," Waterman said. "For some people, it's their only form of transportation."
