Dawson County to be Represented at Upcoming Theatre Festival

Dawson County Arts Council to send a team of students to the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta, GA.

Nov. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- For the fourth consecutive year, Dawson County Arts Council will be taking its award-winning youth competition team to the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. Under the direction of Nathan Gerrells, who is being assisted by Brooke Evans, Andrew Snider, Stephanie Neuman, and Benny Higgins, the team will be taking a fifteen minute selection from School House Rock JR, a musical based on the classic Saturday morning educational series.

The Junior Theatre Festival, hosted by iTheatrics, Music Theatre International, and Theater of the Stars, takes place in Atlanta on an annual basis over the course of Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend. This festival is frequented by teams from all over the United States and occasionally other countries. Young performers and their groups come together to learn about the performing arts while also being given valuable constructive criticism on their fifteen minute performances.

The team, ranging from ages 8 to 18, have been hard at work on their presentation since August. They come from all over the North Georgia area, including Dawson, Lumpkin, Gwinett, Forsyth, and other counties in the surrounding area. In the past, the team has won awards for Outstanding Production, Outstanding Student Choreography, Outstanding Student Musical Direction, and Outstanding Male Performer.
