John Copley, from Rugeley, has spent the majority of his career with Rugeley-based Pickering and Butters, specialising in wills and probate cases.
The award came as a pleasant surprise to Mr Copley, who was unaware that his milestone would be recognised by the society. However, it is an extremely rare achievement in the profession and one about which both he and Pickering and Butters are proud to boast.
Now working as a consultant, the former partner continues to work part time at the Rugeley-based office. John’s passion for his career shows no sign of slowing down. Although he never thought that he would still be a solicitor 50 years on, John loves what he does and intends to carry on, with no plans to retire.
John says: “Nothing appeals to me more than working here. Keeping in contact with clients over 40 years is something I value, and I have been fortunate to work with such nice people – clients and staff alike. Being a part of successful cases makes it all worthwhile, and they are moments I will remember for ever.”
John admits that, over the years, it has been a challenge adjusting to the higher standard of practice at which solicitors now work. He continues: “There is a greater wealth of knowledge throughout the profession, nowadays. Shared information on the Internet has increased public knowledge which, in turn, has raised the bar tremendously for solicitors over the country. This makes the trust which clients have in Pickering and Butters even more valuable, as we are proud of our strong reputation.”
