Shutts & Bowen hires Francois Henriquez, credit union leader, ex-CEO

Shutts & Bowen LLP (http://www.shutts.com) is pleased to announce that national credit union executive and authority François Henriquez has joined the firm Of Counsel.

He will work in the Miami office as a member of the Financial Services Industry Practice Group, practicing primarily in the section's Credit Union Law Group.

Mr. Henriquez most recently served as the President and CEO of U.S. Central Federal Credit Union, the nation’s primary institutional credit union exclusively serving retail credit unions. He operated the institution in conservatorship on behalf of the federal government. Previously, he was the institution’s senior vice president and general counsel, where he was responsible for providing legal service and counsel on all areas of the company’s operations, as well as being responsible for the company’s governmental relations efforts.

From September 1982 until November 1993, Mr. Henriquez was engaged in private legal practice, first as an associate with Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP (http://www.cadwalader.com/), in New York City. He then practiced with two prominent Kansas City, Missouri-based law firms, Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP (http://www.stinson.com/), where he was promoted from associate to partner, and Lewis, Rice & Fingersh, L.C (http://www.lewisrice.com/)., where he was of counsel and partner. While in private practice, Mr. Henriquez was an adjunct professor at the University of Kansas School of Law in Lawrence, Kansas, where he taught banking law.  He is a past board secretary of the National Credit Union Foundation (http://www.ncup.coop) and is a former vice chairman of the legislative and regulatory affairs committee of the Association of Corporate Credit Unions (ACCU).

He received his J.D. from Columbia University Law School and his B.A. from Yale University.
