Nov. 16, 2012 - PRLog -- SYRACUSE, N.Y.—The Board of Directors of MedTech officially announced this week the appointment of Jessica M. Crawford as president of the association.

Crawford, 35, succeeds Heather R. Erickson, who served as MedTech’s president from its founding in 2004 until her departure in July 2012 to join the Life Sciences Foundation in San Francisco.

Most recently, Crawford served as manager of government affairs for SRC (http://www.srcinc.com/) and its subsidiary, SRCTec (http://srcinc.com/srctec/), in North Syracuse, N.Y., where she was responsible for all legislative activities and management of the organization’s government relations program. During her tenure, her leadership helped position SRC’s platform technologies with key stakeholders and elected officials, securing nearly $10 million for defense-related research and development programming.

In addition to her role at SRC, Crawford’s experience as external relations manager for O’Brien & Gere (http://www.obg.com/), and as associate director of the Office of Government and Community Relations at Syracuse University (http://gcr.syr.edu/), has positioned her for a highly-collaborative leadership role with MedTech—the hub of Upstate New York’s bioscience and medical technology industry.

“Jessica Crawford is, without a doubt, the right person to take MedTech into the future and to continue the growth and success that our members have come to expect,” said Daniel S. Jonas, Chair of MedTech’s Board of Directors. “Jessica’s enthusiasm and her passion for community engagement will advance our vision and mission for the state’s Bio/Med industry.”

Crawford’s commitment to the community is evidenced in her key role as founding chair of 40 Below (http://40belowsyracuse.com/), a Syracuse-based non-profit organization of young professionals dedicated to revitalizing Upstate New York through culture, civic engagement and regional promotion. She led the efforts to coordinate and execute an inaugural summit in 2004 and introduced new programming, secured funding and cultivated strategic partnerships that ensured the organization’s success.

“I’m very excited about the potential for MedTech,” Crawford said. “It feels good to be here and to support the businesses and professionals who are at the heart of the innovative, exciting new medical products of tomorrow.”

Since its founding in 2004, MedTech has grown to 95 member organizations (http://medtech.org/upstate/medtech-members.aspx) across Upstate New York and remains committed to the support and development of the region’s bioscience and medical technology industry.
