“For students of IIM Ranchi, it is an excellent opportunity to be able to put in practice all that we have been learning for the last two years”, said Rachit Sharma, a second year student who is taking an active part in the whole exercise.
The initiative will see participation of 150 students from both the first year and second year batches. Students have been divided into verticals such as hospitality, events and contests, cultural committee, marketing and branding, CSR activities, operations and logistics, etc to ensure smooth organization of the event.
Some of the salient features of planning this project entail promoting Jharkhand and its culture through events showcasing the history and rich culture of the state, social media marketing by organizing different contests on Facebook & Twitter, marketing the event through different channels viz. road shows, FM radio, posters, print media, exclusive apparels, logistics support by optimizing the parking space, crowd management, waste management, signboards, etc.
At the same time, students will also try to organise debates, quizzes, drawing competition in schools and colleges to build interest about the event. Also, as part of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives by CSR Club of IIM-R, Samarpan, students will be selling different merchandizes signed by cricketers in collaboration with NGOs.
“We are driven by our desire to support the local administration and the city that have given us so much. We hope our efforts help in the successful organization of this first international cricketing event in Ranchi,” said Rachit.
The institute is mulling to engage an external agency to help organise this event. However, it has not been finalised so far. “We have started works on this project and have drawn a blue-print of the stadium. In fact, we have already begun working on optimization of the parking space and put in place a garbage disposal system to start with. In case there is an external agency, we would share our plan with them and co-ordinate with them”, Rachit said.
The collaborative effort is the brain child of the director of IIM-Ranchi, Dr M J Xavier, and Amitabh Choudhary, chief of JSCA.
