Hicks was looking to do something a little different. When deciding on the idea of her first novel, she only knew she wanted to do something funny and fast paced with a little dash of danger. So when the idea of Peaches and the Gambler popped up, she knew it was a winner.
Peaches and the Gambler
Set in Durham, North Carolina, Peaches and the Gambler is the first installment of a hilarious series of cozy mysteries featuring amateur sleuth Peaches Donnelly. In this first novel, Peaches has been fired from her job and is wrestling for control of her two pesky daughters. Amidst this chaos, her high maintenance opera singer sister breezes into town and a childhood friend is murdered in cold blood. As Peaches struggles to make a delicious decision between two good-looking men, she dives head first into the murder investigation. Chomping her way through a culinary no-man’s land filled with boxes of Dove Ice Cream Bars and Bojangles’ extra crispy friend chicken, Peaches dodges danger to get to the bottom of this not so funny business. But when her nosing around leads her to a strip club, Peaches must decide exactly how far she’s willing to go to solve this murder.
