NCF Tampa Bay President Robert Collins said, "Back in 2005, less than one year into our startup, our Board of Directors set a goal of facilitating $200 million of giving by the year 2015. I am pleased to say, with today’s announcement, we are on track to meet or exceed that goal.”
NCF Tampa Bay is different than most community foundations in that it is not focused on building up a community endowment. “We focus on serving business owners and families as their personal foundation”, said Collins, “helping them manage their annual giving in tax smart ways.” As a result, most of the money contributed in one year flows out into the community in the next year. In fact, outgoing grants were $16.7 million in 2011 and $15 million so far in 2012.
“Help is being poured out by our givers at a record pace. For example, we made a catalytic $100,000 grant to Faith Café, a charity that provides food and other help to the homeless, to begin construction on a new building. We have funded food packing events for hungry kids locally and globally, scholarships for high school students with nowhere to turn, clean water for suffering communities, and emergency assistance to victims of natural disasters locally and internationally. Our givers are excited to be able to use their blessings to bless so many at such a tough time.” said Collins.
