Stevensville, MD – “Dragontamer’s Daughters is for readers who want something different than your typical young adult fantasy story,” author Kenton Kilgore says.  “It deliberately goes against the current of what’s trendy in kids’ lit.  There are no elves or wizards, no vampires or zombies.  It’s also a western, but without any of those clichés, either.  Think Little House on the Prairie, but with dragons—very different dragons.”

Initially conceived as a fairy tale for his young daughters, Kilgore’s novel grew as his children did, eventually becoming a two-part novel, available in paperback and for Kindle on Amazon.com.  “It’s meant for middle-school girls,” Kilgore says, “but boys, older teens, and adults will get plenty out of it, too.”  Wanting to set Dragontamer’s Daughters apart from others, Kilgore was inspired by his childhood in Arizona to place the tale in the Old West of an alternate Earth.

Dragontamer’s Daughters centers on two sisters—Isabella and Alijandra—who live in a shack with their parents in the desert land of the Diheneh, the native people.  Years before, the family was rich and respected because the girls’ father caught, tamed, and trained dragons for their country, Ysparria.  Now the dragontamer is an outlaw and the family is in exile.

Finding a small, severely injured dragon, the girls take it home and begin tending it back to health.  While the dragon heals, the family begins to learn how it got hurt, where it came from, and the strange and terrifying powers it possesses.  Others find out, and soon, competing forces converge on the dragon—and the family—for their own ends.

Dragontamer’s Daughters is Kilgore’s first novel.  He earned a B.A. in English Literature at the University of Maryland College Park, where he concentrated in creative writing, mythology, and medieval English.  He earned an M.A. in English Literature at Washington College in Chestertown, MD.  He and his family live in Stevensville, MD with too many dogs and cats.

Dragontamer’s Daughters, Part 1: Pearl and Dragontamer’s Daughters, Part 2: Stormcaller are available on Amazon.com and through www.kentonkilgore.com.  Dragontamer’s Daughters is also on Facebook.
