From 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, dozens of families will attend the charity event and enjoy a full Thanksgiving meal sponsored by The Great American Grill, the Hilton Garden Inn Devens Common Hotel’s on-site restaurant. Additionally, a “giving tree” will be set up in the shelter’s main ballroom, and each attending family will be invited to fill out a holiday gift request card to be placed on it. Within a few weeks following the event, staff members will purchase and deliver the requested items to the shelter to be picked up by the families and individuals who requested them.
Transitions at Devens, opened in 2010 by the non-profit Our Father’s House organization, is a 16,000 square-foot, 13-unit emergency shelter that houses and serves nearly 50 homeless families each year. The center welcomes qualified families to stay for up to six months while they get the help they need to become financially stable.
