Honda of Downtown L.A. Goes From Nearly Bankrupt to Success Story in Just One Year

It also had just 15 employees working in a rundown facility. But in the year since Joe Shuster and his team took over, the dealership has undergone a complete overhaul, battled a lagging economy and became one of the most successful Honda dealerships in the country, while boosting the local economy in the process.

Shuster has taken the steps to achieve the dealership’s goals in such a short time, starting with an investment in state-of-the-art renovations to the dealership’s facility. Once the dealership switched from exclusively servicing vehicles to also selling new and certified pre-owned Hondas, success came quickly. In just its third month selling vehicles and despite a tough economy, the dealership broke the top 100 in the U.S. in new Honda sales. In just one year, the dealership has sold and delivered over 2,000 vehicles.

Honda of Downtown Los Angeles’ positive impact on the local economy has been easy to see, as the dealership now has over 90 employees, while also working with over 500 businesses and vendors, most of which are based locally.

Coupled with its successes, Honda of Downtown Los Angeles also finds the time to give back to the local community, contributing to various food drives, providing donations to churches and sponsoring many Downtown events. The dealership also formed partnerships with the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles Fire Department and the University of Southern California’s students, faculty and staff.
