The Mississauga Food Bank has set the bar high this year with the goal of raising 175,000 lbs. of food and $250,000. With 65,000 clients relying on the organization each month for help, the food bank is turning to its local community for their continued support.
Food bank use increases this time of year from the added financial pressures the holidays place on struggling families. The Mississauga Food Bank hopes to reduce some of this pressure by providing clients with healthy food for holiday meals.
The food bank encourages people to have fun and to be creative in supporting the Holiday Drive. Consider running a peanut butter drive, hosting a holiday event with the proceeds supporting the food bank or run a tacky holiday sweater contest. Motivate families, co-workers and friends to get involved and remember that every gift counts since a $1 donation allows the food bank to distribute 3 meals.
Cash donations can be made securely online at www.themississaugafoodbank.org, in person or by mail. Food donations can be dropped off at The Mississauga Food Bank during business hours, at any Mississauga Fire Station, and at select grocery stores with collection bins throughout Mississauga.
According to Chris Hatch, Executive Director of The Mississauga Food Bank, “Food Banks Canada recently announced that food bank use is at an all-time high. This means that we have to work even harder to keep up with the increased demand for food not only this holiday season, but year-round. The proceeds from our Holiday Food & Fundraising Drive will help us continue to feed our hungry neighbours during this holiday season and in to the new year.”
