Mr. Lowe earlier said “We have been planning this event since the end of August when we were saddened to hear the news that the son of one of our valued team members had been killed by an IED whilst serving in Afghanistan, we hear about these sort of things happening all the time on the news, but it touched the hearts of all us at Winbase Equities to see the pain caused to one of our valued colleagues in such a senseless way. The day after hearing this news I was having lunch with several business colleagues when we discussed ways we could raise money for the families of people killed in these terrible conflicts. As it was coming up to Halloween we decided this would be the perfect way to raise money for this worthy cause and have a fun evening for everyone too. ” Mr. Lowe also joked that given the roaring success that Winbase Equities had witnessed this year he was happy to see all his employees donate more than the requested $50 entry fee. The event in total raised over $15,000 USD and the board of Directors of Winbase Equities matched the amount from their own funds to make a total for the event of $30,290 USD.
This is not the first time Winbase Equities has taken part in philanthropic work, in 2007 they raised over $5000 towards cancer research through a charity golf tournament they organized and co-sponsored, and in 2009 they raised $2550 that was donated to the children’s ward of a local Hong Kong hospital though a sponsored swimathon. Mr. Lowe also has several charities that he personally donates an undisclosed amount to annually.
