The party is held every December 31st, although many hang around to welcome in the New Year on January 1st. Foxy’s hosts constant entertainment, including live bands, dancing, delicious food, and plenty of drinks. Since Jost Van Dyke does not have much in the way of lodging, the best way to enjoy the night is to charter a yacht for the occasion. The harbor, while small, will fill to overflowing with as many as five hundred boats – everything from “18’ Sea-Doos to mega-yachts with helicopter pads” one reveler posts on TripAdvisor. Many people travel between boats in the tender to join other partiers on other boats and the atmosphere of the area is incredibly unique and memorable.
The harbor begins filling several days prior to December 31st, in preparation for the party. If you arrive early enough, you can access Foxy’s Bar by the pier, but otherwise, you can expect to swim ashore. Ferries arriving to the island are often overflowing with those wanting to join the fun. Some people pitch a tent right on the beach, as leaving directly after the party is almost impossible. If you arrive early, you can expect to stay late. While the party will die down in the light of day, it takes times to untangle anchors and allow for the sheer number of yachts to leave the harbor.
If you are planning on heading to Foxy’s for the arrival of 2013, you need to make plans immediately. While you may be able to stand in line to catch a ferry to the West End ferry dock – which leaves from Tortola, St. Thomas, and St. John; however, unless you’ve already made dinner reservations, you will have to pack your own food. You may still be able to charter a yacht for the party, but again, you must act quickly, as the charters are filling up quickly.
A crewed yacht charter allows you the opportunity to enjoy personalized meals cooked by the yacht chef. You can party on the deck, head to shore as you’d like, then go below to the master suite to sleep in a luxurious king-size bed. The next day, while waiting for the boats to exit the harbor, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy cocktails in the on-deck Jacuzzi, workout on the yacht’s exercise equipment, take a tender or waverunner to shore, or if you’re really hung over, simply lounge on the couch and watch the flat-screen television.
