By: Association of Career Professionals New England The Association of Career Professionals, New England announced today that its members will provide free career coaching for veterans on November 14th at the American Legion in Bedford, MA. The organization is offering its services in honor of Veterans Day to returning Vets from Iraq and Afghanistan, and all other veterans who have served in the military; ACPI-NE has partnered with the Employers Support for the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) in co-hosting this event. Gerry Hayes, Employment Initiative Program Director for ESGR in Massachusetts sums up job seeking challenges for veterans: “Probably the greatest challenge facing our veterans; beyond the relative scarcity of desirable jobs, is that of realistically assessing employment prospects, knowing how to seek employers offering jobs for which they can be competitive, and then knowing how to sell themselves and their relevant skills in terms employers can understand.” Starting at 3 PM, career coaches from ACPI-NE will provide one hour long, one-on-one coaching sessions to help the vets tackle these tough problems. The veterans will be invited to participate in a workshop providing tools to resolve some of the most common career challenges the veterans are facing. The workshop will also be led by ACPI-NE Members. “I am honored to be part of the group at ACPI-NE who have offered focused and individualized career coaching sessions to veterans at no cost. All the coaches respect these men and women who have served our county and are pleased to be in a position to give back in some small way”, Said ACPI-NE Member, Suzanne Gray. This is the second event of this type. Last year, career coaches from ACPI-NE organized a volunteer effort providing career coaching to over 50 long term unemployed, in Canton.
