Nov. 9, 2012 - PRLog -- This fall season was all about finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease as family members, residents and staff of The Stayton at Museum Way senior living community gathered to support efforts to end Alzheimer’s disease in this year’s Fort Worth Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  The fundraising efforts resulted in a total donation by The Stayton of over $5,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association. The final donation from The Stayton will include a gift from the Senior Quality Lifestyles Corporation (SQLC) Charitable Foundation which plans to match a portion of the funds raised by residents and staff.

“This was our first year to participate in the walk, and our residents and staff were so enthusiastic about participating and raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Association,” said Justin Spooner, executive director at The Stayton. “We were ecstatic to be able to raise so much money in our first year. Being able to contribute to such a worthy cause is an honor, and until a cure is found, we will continue to do our part.”

In the months leading up to the walk, The Stayton hosted a series of events to raise funds and awareness for the cause. Some of the fundraising events included a scratch off board between residents and associates, tickets for employees to purchase one extra day off, ticket sales to vote for the “Stayton Super Hero,” and “Art for a Cause,” an art display in the community’s lobby where eight resident artists displayed their work and other residents voted for their favorite piece by dropping donations in a box by the piece.

The Stayton’s sister communities, Edgemere in Dallas, The Buckingham in Houston, and Querencia at Barton Creek in Austin also participated in their respective cities Walk to End Alzheimer’s events.  With all four communities fundraising efforts and the match from the SQLC Charitable Foundation, SQLC will have raised more than $73,104 for the Alzheimer’s Association this year.

In 2008, SQLC founded the SQLC Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit foundation that operates to make grants to and support programs and services that advance the interests of seniors, from Alzheimer’s research to education.

Located in Fort Worth’s Cultural District, The Stayton at Museum Way is an 11-story, three building community featuring 188 independent living residences with a variety of spacious one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans. In addition to resort-style independent living, The Stayton provides onsite assisted living, memory support, and private skilled nursing for life care residents and others in the community.

The Stayton at Museum Way is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit senior living community sponsored by Senior Quality Lifestyles Corporation (SQLC), a Texas-based nonprofit organization that sponsors sister communities The Buckingham in Houston, Edgemere in Dallas, Querencia at Barton Creek in Austin, Mirador in Corpus Christi and The Barrington at Carmel in Indianapolis.
