Nov. 9, 2012 - PRLog -- (SAVANNAH, GA) MedBank Foundation, Inc. announces that it has just received a $15,000 expansion grant from The Georgia Health Foundation to bring free medications to patients at a second site in Effingham County, Georgia, helping those who need them most but can afford them the least.

Joining St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Rincon as the newest MedBank site in Effingham County at the United Way Service Center at 711 Zitterour Drive in Rincon, the new site opened on November 1, welcoming new patients on Wednesdays from 9 am to 5 pm each week (the site closes for lunch from noon to 1 pm on those days).

This new site will be staffed by MedBank’s patient services coordinator Barbara Westerfield, and is in partnership with Bonnie Dixon, executive director of the United Way Effingham Service Center.

MedBank executive director Liz Longshore Stephens says, "We’ve been hoping to expand our efforts to bring free prescription medications to the neediest patients in Effingham.  Now, with this generous grant from Georgia Health Foundation, we are finally able to make that happen.  Thanks to the Foundation's generosity for this wonderful grant, and to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, our staff Barbara Westerfield and Bonnie Dixon for helping us expand the Effingham mission to a second site.  Thanks to them, we’re looking forward to serving many more people in the Effingham community."

Barbara Westerfield, patient services coordinator at MedBank’s newest site, says, “MedBank is thrilled to open another site in Effingham County.  This site will complement our services at St. Luke’s, and we hope this will allow us to be more accessible to more people in the county."

Bonnie Dixon, executive director of United Way Effingham Service Center, says, "Medbank is truly a lifesaver for so many people.  I've seen clients, both young and old, who are not taking their medications because they cannot afford them.  This decision impacts every aspect of their life, their job, their family.  With Medbank's help they’re able to have a much better quality of life.   We’re very excited to have Medbank join us at the Service Center!”
