Smart City installs cutting-edge EventPath technology at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center

Events DC and Smart City Partner Up To Deliver State-Of-the-Art- Communications Solutions that Remotely Connect the Walter E. Washington Convention Center with Surrounding Hotels and Venues

Nov. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- (Washington, DC) - Events DC announced today that it was leading the way in upholding its status as a premiere conventions and meetings destination by offering EventPath™, an integrated event network that offers remote connectivity utilizing high-speed fiber connections up to 100 million bits per second (Mbps) from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center to the nearby Renaissance Washington D.C Hotel. The new service debuted during the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting on Oct. 22. The American College of Rheumatology (ACR) Annual Meeting, which opens on Nov. 9, will be the second show to utilize this new service.

“The role of technology in large citywide conventions – especially those within the technological and entrepreneurial sectors – is rapidly expanding, and in Washington, DC, we have already seen the demand for this type of expanded networking capability,” said Greg O’Dell, Events DC president and chief executive officer.  “EventPath will directly address the needs of those customers while opening new doors for others who are looking for ways to create added value for exhibitors and attendees through impactful technology enhancements.”

EventPath™, a new brand of Smart City, the exclusive provider of telecommunication services for the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, enhances the attendee and visitor experience by providing the following:

·       Remote registrations to make event check-in more efficient

·       Integrated event Wi-Fi access to the convention center and participating hotels to provide a seamless browsing experience for attendees

·       Integrated session networking

·       Integrated interactive digital signage providing real-time event information to hotel rooms

·       Access to convention and booth resources from the tradeshow floor

·       Webcasting and video service overflow extensions

In Washington, DC, EventPath™ also powers a new service, Motorola Site Connect. Through a new full building digital radio system, Smart City will utilize EventPath™ to provide events the capability to operate point-to-point and facility-to-hotel over crystal clear digital handheld radios.

This system is also available at RFK Stadium which offers vendors or contractors the ability to communicate from the Convention Center to the marshaling yard for enhanced communication plans.

“Events are all about content; everything from presentations to digital signage can be extended from the Center to the convention hotels,” said Michael Waxer, Events DC, chief technology officer. “I’m always encouraging my service partners to find creative solutions for our customers. This new system offers multiple solutions, reducing communications cost and need for duplicate services.”

The Walter E. Washington Convention Center is the second facility in the country to offer EventPath™.

In addition to EventPath™, Events DC worked with Smart City last year to upgrade the wireless connectivity in all of the public spaces within the 2.3 million square-foot facility. Now, each visitor can connect their wireless devices to the enhanced Wi-Fi network for free throughout the public spaces in the Convention Center. A new Convention Center app was also designed for a better visitor experience, and touch screen informational terminals have been installed around the Center.
