Flat-Club is a new model for peer-to-peer rental marketplaces that takes an intuitive approach to solving the biggest problem in short-term accommodation - trust.
Instead of creating yet another social network, Flat-Club simply finds trust where it already exists, like University student or alumni networks, and brings it online to create a unique marketplace.
New members join Flat-Club using their university email address or Facebook. Flat-Club verifies their network affiliation and places them in a University Club.
Members renting their room or apartment on Flat-Club have the power to choose which University Clubs will see their posting. A member first pre-selects the networks they trust and then selects an individual they are comfortable having stay in their home.
By focusing on trusted networks Flat-Club aims to double the size of the peer-to-peer private rental market. Flat-Club opened doors 22 months ago and is working in collaboration with over 50 top universities including Columbia, NYU, London Business School, INSEAD, and Cambridge.
Co-Founder and CEO Nitzan Yudan explains “We started Flat-Club to provide an alternative to hotels, hostels, service apartments and generic internet listings and in under 18 months we grew from 5 apartments in London to over 3,000 accommodations. Most of these accommodations have never been posted online before.”
The launch campaign is named 'US30' after Interstate 30 that traverses the U.S. from coast to coast. The US30 theme is to connect a student and alumni short-term accommodations network across the U.S. with a friendly competition between schools.
During the US30 Launch, students and alumni can earn points for their University Club by joining and spreading the word about their club and posting a room or apartment.
The top 3 point-earning University Clubs win $25 travel money for every club member. One lucky winner will be awarded $500 travel money in the Flat-Club US30 Lottery and one motivated student will be selected for a Great Marketing Internship with Flat-Club.
The selected student intern will receive a new iPhone 5 World Phone, $1,000 in Flat-Club accommodation, flight tickets and mission to tell the Flat-Club story through multiple social media channels - from the road.
