To take action and help others in need, C&S Wholesale Grocers is working in partnership with Feeding America, the country's largest hunger relief organization. Feeding America is part of National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (www.NVOAD.org (http://www.nvoad.org/))
The company’s post-storm response took shape through a number of initiatives:
Within days, three tractor trailer loads of food – approximately 150,000 pounds – were donated to Feeding America member food banks in areas hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. One headed to the Connecticut Food Bank (www.ctfoodbank.org) in East Haven, CT; they support 600 emergency food agencies in six counties. A second went to City Harvest (www.cityharvest.org) in New York City; they have operated for more than 30 years and supply 600 agencies. A third truckload was delivered to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey in Hillside, NJ (www.njfoodbank.org) and to the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties in Neptune, NJ (www.foodbankmoc.org)
The items C&S donated have been specifically requested by Feeding America and include bottled water, soup, peanut butter, granola and power bars, chili, beef stew, diapers, and cleaning products.
In collaboration with the National Business Aviation Association’
C&S Wholesale Grocers made a financial contribution to the national American Red Cross in support of immediate disaster relief efforts.
