Water's Edge Resort & Spa Welcomes New Executive Chef

The Water’s Edge Resort & Spa, the Connecticut shoreline’s premier vacation beachfront resort and full-service hotel and meeting and banquet facility, has appointed three veterans of the hospitality industry to its staff.

Nov. 7, 2012 - PRLog -- WESTBROOK, CT – The Water’s Edge Resort  & Spa, the Connecticut shoreline’s premier vacation beachfront resort and full-service hotel and meeting and banquet facility, is pleased to announce the appointment of three veterans of the hospitality industry to its team. They are John V. Cortesi, Executive Chef; Anthony Amendola, Director of Sales and Marketing and Giuseppe Mauriello, Restaurant Manager.

Mr. Cortesi comes to the Water’s Edge Resort & Spa from Madison Beach Hotel where he served as Executive Chef of its new restaurant and banquet facility. Previously, he held Executive Chef positions with responsibility for overseeing food, beverage and banquet operations at the Saybrook Point Inn and Spa; Four Points by Sheraton, Meriden; the Inn at Mystic’s Flood Tide Restaurant and Wampanoag Country Club.

Among his distinctions, Mr. Cortesi earned high Zagat and Wine Spectator ratings for the 4 Diamond Terra Mar Grill at Saybrook Point Inn; was a featured chef in the Great Chefs of New England Wine Diner Series and led a Culinary Institute of America (C.I A.), Pro Chef Seminar, featuring Mediterranean cuisine. Trained by the C.I.A., Mr. Cortesi and his family live in Middletown, CT.

Mr. Amendola brings more than 20 years of hospitality experience to the Water’s Edge Resort & Spa, most recently as Director of Sales and Marketing for the Tarrytown House Estate in Tarrytown, NY. Previously, he held a variety of positions for leading hotels in the northeast including Director of Sales and Marketing for the Hilton Stamford Hotel and Executive Meeting Center; Senior Director of Global Business Travel for the Americas at the Sol Melia Hotels and Resorts; Director of Sales and Marketing at the Paramount Hotel as well as at the Millennium United Nations Plaza Hotel in New York City. At the start of his career, he spent 11 years with Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Connecticut and New Jersey.

A graduate of Villanova University in Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Mr. Amendola and his wife and daughter live in Wilton, CT.

Mr. Mauriello’s food and beverage career also spans more than 20 years. Previously, he was Director of Dining at the Gables Assisted Living of Brookdale in Farmington, CT and Director of Food and Beverage for the Sheraton Hartford Hotel, East Hartford, CT

Trained in culinary schools in Udine and Rapallo Italy, Mr. Mauriello began his career with Princess Cruise Line, serving as assistant maitre’d and head waiter. He then went on to hold a variety of positions at the Orchid Island Golf and Beach Club, Vero Beach, FL; The Windsor Club & Beach Club, Vero Beach, FL;  Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncasville, CT and the Overseas Gourmet Corp, Bronx, NY.

Fluent in Italian, Dutch and Spanish and highly knowledgeable about international wines, Mr. Mauriello and his family live in Manchester, CT.
