New Consultant: Profile for Dr Rosella Barbagello at Orwell Private Cardiothoracic Unit

PRLog (Press Release) - Nov. 7, 2012 - Dr Barbagallo qualified in 2003 from the University of Catania in Italy and trained in Cardiology at Ferrarotto Hospital where she was particularly involved in the research on drug eluting stents technology; the subject of her final thesis. She then further specialised in echocardiography and, in particular, was involved in the perioperative assessment of patients undergoing mitral valve surgery.

Dr Barbagallo was appointed Consultant Imaging Cardiologist at Basildon Hospital in 2011 and joined the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre Imaging Group contributing in developing advanced echocardiographic techniques, before recently joining the team at Orwell PPU She has particular expertise in the preoperative echocardiographic assessment of valvular disease with 3D TOE and stress echocardiography. She has also a particular interest in heart failure and is currently the lead for heart failure at Basildon Hospital.

Cardiac surgery is an increasingly required treatment in the UK and the need for specialist consultants is rapidly growing. With frequent additional members in the team at Orwell Private Cardiothoracic Unit these needs are able to be met with effective, approved healthcare ensured.
