Nov. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Sydney 7 November, 2012: Canon Australia has today announced two new additions to the renowned EF lens range for the Canon EOS camera system: the new EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM and EF 35mm f/2 IS USM. Building on the extensive EF range, which comprises more than 75 lenses[1], the new EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM has macro shooting capabilities at the telephoto end and the EF 35mm f/2 IS USM adds Canon’s proprietary Image Stabilization (IS) to this popular prime lens.

“These new lenses are a strong addition the extensive EF lens lineup and ideally complement the Canon EOS Full Frame camera range, including the compact new EOS 6D,” said Kai Lebens, Product Manager, Canon Consumer Imaging, Canon Australia. “Australia’s No.1 camera system*1 just became even better as these new options enable a wide range of photographers to achieve images with greater quality and expressive power.”

Canon EF 24–70mm f/4L IS USM Lens

Compact, lightweight and dynamic with Canon’s  L-series optical performance, the new EF 24–70mm f/4L IS USM lens is perfect for full-frame photography on the go.

The ideal companion to Canon’s full-frame Digital SLR cameras, such as the newly released EOS 6D, the lens features a constant maximum aperture of f/4 throughout the entire zoom range to enable beautiful background blurring regardless of the focal length. The newly developed optics comprise 15 lens elements in 12 groups, including two aspherical and two UD lens elements, to reduce aberrations and deliver high resolution throughout the zoom range. Moreover, a nine-blade circular aperture diaphragm achieves nearly circular out-of-focus effects on points of light in the background.

The EF 24–70mm f/4L IS USM lens delivers gorgeous images with excellent detail at all focal lengths and includes a macro feature at the telephoto end with a 0.2m minimum focusing distance. Canon’s Image Stabilization achieves a level of sharpness approximately four stops faster in the normal shooting range. For macro shooting, Canon’s Hybrid IS system (with up to three stops of stabilisation at 0.5x) corrects both angular and shift camera shake at the same time, and activates automatically when the zoom ring is set to “macro”.

In addition, the lens features inner focusing and ring USM for fast , silent autofocus, and has full-time mechanical manual focus that is enabled even during AF operation. The EF 24–70mm f/4L IS USM lens is compact at only 93mm in length and offers excellent dust and water resistance, while a fluorine coating on the front and rear elements enables easy maintenance and cleaning.

Availability

With shipping expected from mid December 2012*2, the new EF 24–70mm f/4L IS USM lens also makes possible the EOS 6D Advanced Kit, which allows photographers to experience the benefits of full frame photography with a compact and versatile kit.

Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM Lens

The successor to Canon’s EF 35mm f/2, the new EF 35mm f/2 IS USM adds Image Stabilisation and an ultra-sonic motor (USM) to this popular wide-angle prime lens for even higher image quality and functionality.

The EF 35mm f/2 IS USM lens optics and mechanical workings are designed to improve image quality in the lens’s periphery, faster AF, as well as Optical IS and optional full-time manual focus, all in a lens body with a high-grade design. Featuring a circular aperture diaphragm and lens coatings optimised for minimal ghosting and flare, the EF 35mm f /2 IS USM lens achieves beautiful, soft backgrounds and amazing image quality.

Availability

The EF 35mm f/2 IS USM lens is expected to be available from the beginning of December 2012*2.
