Nov. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- On November 24th 2012, at Palm Beach International Raceway, 17047 Beeline Highway, in Jupiter Fl., there will be an historical marker unveiling to commemorate the 1969 Palm Beach Pop Festival. It will be the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and the 43rd anniversary of that event. Starting at two pm, come and see the historical marker unveiling on the original festival site, there will be music provided by The Fog band. You can see the eight and a half minute documentary trailer, produced by Oldrockphoto, about the original festival. There will be food and drink vendors as well as a table of Rock merchandise for sale related to the festival, including replica posters. There will also be an appearance by Mark Stein, an original member of Vanilla Fudge, a band that played at the ’69 festival. He will be selling his book, “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”, and saying hello to his fans.   We are proud to announce that Andy Preston from WKGR, “The GATER” will be participating in the unveiling ceremonies
The 2012 Citrus Nationals, which will draw 5-10,000 people per day, features drag racing, a sport compact car and truck show- n-shine, manufacturer’s marketplace, and other sport compact industry partners. Pro Mod, Quick 16 Door car, Quick 16 Dragster, Jet Dragsters, Wheel stander And More. This is a three day event and the biggest race of the year.
In the history of Rock this festival was one the most important ROCK FESTIVALS of the summer of ’69. It was the only festival appearance of The Rolling Stones, who were the closing act. This festival featured the Janis Joplin, Johnny Winter and Vanilla Fudge Jam. It also had the majority of the rock bands that played at Woodstock, including the first band to perform there, Sweetwater. Among the other acts  were The Jefferson Airplane, Rotary Connection, The Byrds, Spirit, Iron Butterfly, Pacific Gas and Electric, Country Joe and the Fish, Grand Funk Railroad, King Crimson, Chambers Brothers, and Sly and the Family Stone. This festival almost never happened; the combination of government opposition and extremely bad weather conditions was almost overwhelming. See the trailer for a better idea of what was happening.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=777UEHKyka4  Oldrockphoto.com has been working on this documentary for the last four years, doing research, finding archival footage, filming interviews, and editing our interview footage. Palm Beach society photographer, Bob Davidoff, and son Ken were the official photographers of the event which will celebrate its forty third anniversary this Thanksgiving. Oldrockphoto will be shooting “man on the street” interviews at the original festival site in conjunction with their pending documentary.
All of this has been provided by Palm Beach International Raceway.
