Nov. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Bryn Mooser and David Darg launch first actionable news service, RYOT News, connecting people’s interests to their ability to make the world a better place. Every story posted on RYOT.org is accompanied by an action-box that links directly to a leading organization that is making a positive impact on the issue.

Whether it is donating to a related non-profit, signing a petition or pledge to volunteer, or just spreading the word, RYOT News is the first truly actionable news platform. RYOT aims to be a platform that connects its readers to the most effective organizations responding to major disasters.

“Right now there is disconnect; people watch catastrophes unfold - like a tsunami or an earthquake - and they want to help but do not know the best way to do so,” said Mooser. “With RYOT you are not only reading about events as they occur but you are able to effectively and immediately make an impact by donating to a trusted partner who is leading the relief efforts. With tens of thousands of registered non-profits to choose from, we want RYOT readers to feel confident that their donations are going to the right hands and will make a real difference.”

Mooser and Darg have a combined 20 years of experience in international non-profit and humanitarian aid work. RYOT News was in part born out of the fundraising challenges that non-profits face:

“The problem with the current fundraising model is that non-profits are trying to get people interested in obscure things on the other side of the world,” said Darg.

“RYOT connects people’s interests to their ability to make the world a better place.”

RYOT News curates breaking news from all over the country, links each article to a related cause or an appropriate action, and includes short commentary in the form of a “RYOT Note,” the RYOT editorial team’s take on the traditional Editor’s Note. As well, a percentage of proceeds from the site’s advertising revenue benefit a different cause each week so just by visiting RYOT and sharing news stories, readers are making a difference.

Eventually, the entire experience will be integrated on the RYOT platform so users can track their donations and actions to see how their involvement is making a difference.
