Nov. 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Equisens supports the work of the United States Dressage Federation as a Contributing Sponsor to the 2012 Adequan/USDF Annual Convention. The event is being held in New Orleans, Louisiana December 5 through December 8, 2012. The host hotel is Sheraton New Orleans Hotel, located at 500 Canal Street in the French Quarter.

Equisens Smart Ride is the only portable electronic training system worn by horseback riders to accurately detect and report lateral balance. Smart Ride units will be available to try out Thursday, December 6 through December 8, 2012 at the sponsor area which is located on the main floor of the hotel near the meeting rooms.

USDF Hall of Fame Inductee Hilda Gurney has recently worked with the Equisens Smart Ride and espoused its benefits in determining the reality of a rider’s balance. As part of the Featured Education Presentations, Ms. Gurney will speak about sitting in balance and harmony while riding.

The patent-pending Smart Ride equestrian balance sensing system is a compact training device designed to be worn by horseback riders to actively detect and report lateral balance while they ride thereby offsetting kinesthetic distortion.

The system consists of a fabric pad with dozens of force-sensing areas, a compact, lightweight microprocessor controller powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, and Lycra® and full seat grip short breeches to accurately position the sensors. Balance is reported via a super-bright LED (light-emitting diode) and a pair of “buzzers”, similar to the vibrate mode of a Smartphone, placed left and right at the waistline of the rider.

Hundreds of times each second, Smart Ride measures force exerted by the rider against the saddle and continuously feeds the results into the controller. Calculations are performed for variations in the location and composition of each sensor and the contribution each makes towards a balanced seat. According to Olympic Bronze Medalist and international judge Charlotte Bredahl-Baker, “Equisens is extremely accurate and some of my students have already benefitted from it.”
