Nov. 5, 2012 - PRLog -- A 5.7 Tremor rocked Nepal around 6:53 PM local time.  So far there is no news of any damage to property or life.

The epicenter of the earth quake was in Tibet about 136 KM north east of Kathmandu the capital city of Nepal.  It was in the hilly districts close to Sindhupalchowk.

Nepal lies in an earth quake zone. The last major earth quake was in November of 2011.  No major damage was also felt then.

Nepal is not in a position to manage a major earthquake that could devastate the Capital city and other major cities.  Many of the homes built are not to spec for a major earthquake.  The house are built close to each other.

There have been progress made to address the management of disaster and also preparation and awareness.  Here is a power point presentation on using social media to manage disaster in Nepal.

As the younger tech savvy generation grows in number in Nepal, they could be a huge resource to help manage disaster through this global medium.  In addition as Nepal embarks in its path to democracy, systems like these could be used to empower the local population and take charge of their immediate environment.  Using systems, which is not the usual practice in Nepal, is a way to teach democracy in action.

Manage disaster and help foster democracy - through online social media.
