Trant's eco success story in 2012

Civil engineering firm Trant has released details of its sustainability highlights of the year.

PRLog - Nov. 5, 2012 - Civil engineering group Trant (http://www.trant.co.uk/) has underlined its environmental credentials with the release of sustainability highlights for 2012.

The multi-disciplinary company, which provides specialist contractor services for some of the biggest infrastructure names in Britain and across the world, is helping to protect the environment through a range of projects and initiatives.

They include energy-efficient technology, greenhouse gas management, renewable energy and sustainable transport.

Tim Trant, Managing Director, said: "We recognise that our operations, on behalf of clients, have an effect on the local, regional and global environment and effective environmental management is critical to future business success.

"With that objective, we have ensured a 22 per cent reduction in carbon emissions, recycled 46 per cent of waste material and reused 41 per cent of waste material, with just 13 per cent of waste material sent to landfill.

"Whilst these figures are commendable, there is no room for complacency in reducing carbon footprints, individually and collectively.

"We will continue to push for greener practices and outputs in all areas, from the amount of paper we use in our headquarters to reusing excavated soils on sites."

The Trant Environmental Management System is registered by the BSI - www.bsigroup.com - and complies with the requirements of BS EN ISO 14001.

BSI is a leading global provider of standards, management systems, business improvement and regulatory approval information.

Trant, with extensive in-house expertise across the civil, mechanical and electrical disciplines, also emphasised that the key to long-term sustainability of its business is to treat employees, clients and communities in an ethical, fair and respectful way.

Mr Trant said: "We aim to practise good neighbour policies, continue to develop and improve our employees and consider the need of all stakeholders."

Highlights in these fields include:

Average Considerate Constructor Scheme score of 34.5/40 (industry average is 33/40)
Business award winner for employee and community engagement
Order of Distinction by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents - www.rospa.com - 24 consecutive Golds for Occupational Health & Safety
Wider coverage of in-house wellperson and health surveillance clinic
Annual 12,000-plus hours of training for employees

The Trant Occupational Health & Safety Management System is registered by the BSI and complies with BSI OHSAS 18001.

Mr Trant added: "On corporate development, we aim to continue the development and improvement of our business and maintain high levels of client satisfaction and employment in a challenging business environment.

"We have a lot to be proud of to date, such as more than 50 years in business, 80 per cent repeat business and a 20 per cent rise in professional staff, along with 100 per cent UVDB Verify Site Assessment, which allows companies such as Trant to demonstrate compliance to health, safety, environment and quality requirements."

The Trant Quality Management System is registered by the BSI and complies with BS EN ISO 9001.

Trant, headquartered in Southampton, Hampshire, England, carries out a diverse range of projects in six sectors which help drive the British economy - petrochemical, pharmaceutical, power and transmission, building, civil engineering and mechanical and electrical engineering.
