College takes steps to improve access facilities

Nov. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Llandrillo College in Rhos-on-Sea, Conwy, Wales, recently spent approximately £300,000 refurbishing a block that contains new offices and a nursery for staff and students, known as the Cinmel Building. A movemanSKG Prestige platform lift means wheelchair users can reach the upper storey.

The college is the largest further education institution in Wales and offers an extensive range of courses, from entry up to degree level, and has some of the best resources and results in the country. It prides itself on helping people to change their lives and is part of a group that includes two other colleges in Meirion-Dwyfor and Menai. Needless to say, disabled access is top of Llandrillo College’s agenda.

Anwyl Construction, a local building firm with over 60 years of experience and a proven reputation, was in charge of the refurbishment and specified the lift. Charlie Shaw, Anwyl’s Contracts Manager, is positive: “We had a great experience with movemanSKG. Our client is very happy with it.”

Installed inside a surrounding staircase, the Prestige platform lift at Llandrillo College travels approximately 3.5m between the Cinmel Building’s main reception and offices on the first floor and carries 400kg. It features a range of safety systems, including doors that lock automatically when the platform is in motion to prevent people entering the shaft and an emergency backup battery power system.
