Nov. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Dar es Salaam - With thousands of Tigo Pesa transactions taking place daily across the country, Tigo is now offering its subscribers transactions for free through Tigo Pesa by getting service charges back in airtime.

“With the advent of mobile money transactions in Tanzania, and Tigo being at the forefront of this innovation, we want to continue giving our customers this convenient service with added benefits,” said Tuli Mwaikenda, Tigo Public Relations Officer.

This service will be open to all Tigo subscribers making that send or receive money to other Tigo customers through Tigo Pesa (peer-to-peer transactions). Both the sender and the receiver must be Tigo Pesa registered subscribers. Senders will receive up to Tsh 1,500 and a receiver who cashes-out will receive up to Tsh 5,000 in airtime.

Tigo subscribers in Dar es Salaam region, who use Tigo Pesa, will get their transfer fees back in air time when sending money to subscribers in regions other than Dar es Salaam, and the receiver will also get their cash-out fees as free airtime. The same is the case for two subscribers who transfer money within all regions, excluding Dar es Salaam. Finally, if a subscriber transfers money from other regions to the Dar es Salaam region, this subscriber will get free airtime back to the amount of his or her transfer fees.

Customers should dial *150*01# for the Tigo Pesa menu to send or receive their transaction in the normal way. The free airtime will be awarded for that transaction on the next day. A notification SMS will be sent for the bonus value in airtime to call or SMS any Tigo subscriber.

Tigo has taken major security measures on its Tigo Pesa product but would like to remind its subscribers that in addition to the tighter Tigo Pesa security measures already in place, subscribers must continue to take responsibility for the safety and protection of their PIN numbers and personal data by not revealing their PIN numbers or any personal information to anyone.
