The results show that the science, high-tech and IT industries will be the driving force behind the expected employment growth in the coming year. Of the businesses surveyed in these sectors, 48 per cent forecast their workforce to be larger in 12 months time, whereas only 13 per cent predict they will employ fewer staff.
According to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) chief policy director Katja Hall, the real challenge for these businesses is to ensure that more young people are positioned to fill these vacancies.
