Nov. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Vermont Academy is excited to announce the Boys' Varsity Basketball schedule for the 2012-2013 season! With a loaded 30-game slate packed with the best prep school programs in the United States, the schedule includes 17 NEPSAC AA league games, as well as appearances in eight national-level, invitation-only events designed to showcase the elite scholastic programs in the country.

The action tips off on November 17 against perennial New England power South Kent at the National Prep Showcase in New Haven, Connecticut, an event marking the unofficial start of the prep school season. The Vermont Academy Wildcats will then travel to Providence, Rhode Island on December 2 to square off against national power New Hampton School in the Hoop Mountain Prep Classic, before making their next showcase appearance at the St. Andrew's Holiday Classic in the same city on December 14-15 against AA league opponents Marianapolis Prep and Brimmer & May School.

The new year features an array of nationally-anticipated contests on the event stage, starting with a showdown against heavily-touted AA-foe Wilbraham & Monson at the famed Boston Shootout on January 19. The very next day, on January 20, the Wildcats will travel to Springfield, Massachusetts to make the Academy's debut appearance in the highly-acclaimed Hoophall Classic, where they will face off against AA-rival Tilton School in what is widely-recognized as the crown jewel of amateur basketball events throughout the entire scholastic season.  Capping a highly-ambitious, thrilling three-day stretch, the Wildcats will travel to New York City the following day, on January 20, for a return invite to the Big Apple Classic with a match-up against Massanutten Military Academy, one of the finest prep programs in the country and an early favorite to earn a return trip to the eight-team National Prep Championship field in early March.

The Vermont Academy black & orange will make its third consecutive appearance at the National Prep School Invitational in Providence, Rhode Island with its first of two games with fellow NEPSAC members coming against Suffield Academy on January 31, before facing off against defending national champion Brewster in a prime-time Sunday match-up on February 3. On February 9-10, Boston will be the destination yet again, this time for the inaugural Hoop Dreams Mag Tournament, which will feature dynamite contests with highly-pedigreed NEPSAC opponents Bridgton and Milton Academy.

With several critical league contests mixed in throughout against programs all vying for a coveted New England AA title, the season will culminate on February 23 with a home game against Marianapolis Prep on Senior Day, where final-year players will be honored, along with their families, and have one last chance to compete on the hardwood of Williams Gymnasium before the Wildcats make their run through postseason play in March!

Vermont Academy couldn't be more excited about all the upcoming season is poised to offer to its players, student body, faculty members and fans, and we look forward to seeing all of our supporters at the next game throughout what is certain to be a supremely-competitive, exhilarating four months of basketball!
